Railfanning Anniston Alabama
A Norfolk Southern freight highballs past the Anniston depot
on its way to Birmingham Alabama
A BNSF unit leads a hot shot east bound intermodal double
stack on its way to Atlanta GA
A Birmingham bound hot shot approaches from the east just
ahead of Amtrak's Southern Crescent.
A local approaches the depot from the west with a military
movement.
One of the best places in the Anniston area to safely take fantastic
pictures is located in the downtown area at the old depot which is
still in use today by both the NS and a station stop twice a day by
Amtraks Southern Crescent.

Anniston is located on NS heavily traveled Birmingham to Atlanta
mainline with up to 30+ trains per day. The depot is located on 4th
street just off of noble street.

Another good photo location is along Noble Street as it parallels
the main line for approx. 3/4 mile and has several areas to safely
park within 20-30 ft. of the mainline but on public property.

With easy access from US Hgwy 431, Interstate 20, and hwy 202
Anniston is located approx. 63 miles east of Birmingham Al. and
approx. 88 miles west of Atlanta GA.
