Railfanning Birmingham Alabama
A Union Pacific run thru highballs under Richard
Arrington Blvd Bridge on Norfolk Southerns Mainline.
CSX and Norfolk Southern mainlines parallel each other
under Richard Arrington Blvd. bridge downtown Bham.
A CSX freight highballs past the Amtrak station on its
mainline headed for Boyles Yard.
Norfolk Southern and CSX mingle while each are
waiting for green signals.
One of the best places in Birmingham to safely take
fantastic pictures from is located on the Richard Arrington
Blvd. bridge.  Which has parking, as well as, sidewalks on
both sides of the bridge as it crosses the heavily traveled
parallel mainlines of Norfolk Southern and CSX.

These mainlines provide an almost constant parade of
freight trains (40-50) per day and twice a day visits of
Amtraks Southern Crescent at the Amtrak station located
approx. 500 ft west of the bridge and approx 1/2 mile south
of CSX's Boyles yard and approx. 3 miles south of NS Norris
Yard in Irondale, AL.

Richard Arrington Blvd. connects University ave (8th ave s)
with first ave north and is one way from Univerisity to first
ave. Univeristy Ave is easily  Accessible from Highway
280-31 and I-65
