|Railfanning Decatur, Alabama
One of the best places in Decatur to safely take fantastic pictures
from is located in the downtown area by the old depot at the
corners of Vine ST NW and Railroad ST NW where NS's Memphis
to Chattanooga and CSX's Birmingham to Nashville mainline
merge to cross the mighty Tennessee River on a single track NS
owned bridge that actually sees more CSX traffic per day than NS.
Also another good photo location for shooting just CSX trains is
at the farmers market located just north of CSX's Oakworth yard
With easy access from US 31, US 72A, and interstate 65 Decatur
is approx. 81 miles North of Birmingham AL. approx. 25 miles
west of Huntsville AL. and approx.117 miles South of Nashville TN.
