Yards for reclassification.
An eastbound intermodal bypasses Norris Yard headed for
the intermodal yard in Austell GA
Looking towards Norris Yards from the Railfan platform.
Irondale Alabama is located on highway 78 just east of Birmingham
and is home to Norfolk Southerns (formerly Southerns) 53 track
Norris Yard.
The Railfan platform is a great place to Railfan as it is home to
Norfolk Southerns busy Norris Yard which is located on the busy
Birmingham to Chattanooga and Birmingham to Atlanta mainlines.
The railfan platform is located just outside of the south side of
Norris Yard and you can get up close and personal with the
trains as they pass within feet of the platform.
Just across the street from the platform is the Irondale Cafe
made famous by the movie Fried Green Tomatoes, and yes they do
serve some fantastic Fried Green tomatoes as well as other great
southern treats.
The platform is equipped with lights and electricity for great night
photos.
